Scrap-Heap Challenge Winners 2009

When Cubs enter the Pack they join a small group of Cubs called a "Six" (named after colour of their woggle). Each Six has a Sixer assisted by a Seconder; they are older Cubs who learn to take responsibilities at Pack meetings and at camp. Once a year the whole Pack has the opportunity to spend a weekend camping and the older Cubs can also attend a weekend camp with other Packs in the District. We take part in annual competitions organised by the South Chiltern District and Oxfordshire County these include chess, sports, cricket, 6-a-side football, swimming gala, go-kart races, and mastermind.

Cubs follow a programme of Awards designed to help them learn how to care for themselves and others and how to be a useful member of their family and society.

Cubs also earn activity badges from a wide selection available.  There are a total of 32 badges ranging from Animal Lover to Writer and Athlete to Cook, together they include skills, service, safety and hobbies.

During the summer months we spend many evenings away from the Pavilion (weather permitting) having healthy fun outdoors enjoying the surroundings of Stoke Row, building bivouacs, tracking, playing games and sports, cooking on open fires, etc.  In the winter, our time indoors is divided between energy-absorbing games and learning through activities and instruction in groups progressing through the award scheme.

Pack meetings start and finish with the Grand Howl ceremony which enables everyone to hear verbal instructions, receive written notes for parents and have the opportunity to pray together.  There are currently 30 Cub Scouts in our Pack.
