Contacts Clive Robins - Scout Leader email: clive@mcrobins.co.uk Tel: 0118 9722759 Meetings 8pm ->9:30pm Wednesday evenings during school term time at Pavilion Groups Age Range 10 1/2 to 14 1/2 Troop Scouts are divided into 4 Patrols - Badgers, Eagles, Kestrels & Panthers. Each Patrol is led by a Patrol Leader (PL) who is one of the older Scouts in the Patrol. The PL is helped by an Assistant Patrol Leader (APL). A Patrol is a working group which enables the more experienced Scouts to pass on skills to the other members. Patrols organise activities, and through these they learn to unite together as a team.  The patrol system is the distinctive characteristic of the Scout Troop.

Aims

The aim of our Scout Troop is to help young people to develop their full potential physically, intellectually, spiritually and socially whatever their background, race, experience or special need. It is a challenge that continually stretches the leaders and the Scouts to ensure that a balanced programme is enjoyed.  It is no accident that a well run troop has a mixture of indoor and outdoor pursuits, physical and thinking activities and time to just chat and enjoy other people’s company. Their are also many opportunities to spend nights away camping and having Adventures!

Programme

We work around 6 programme zones: Scoutcraft & Adventure; Global; Community; Fit for Life; Creative Expression and Exploring Beliefs & Attitudes. This gives us a very balanced and varied programme.

Scouting is for young people aged between 10½ and 14 years who want to make friends and develop their widening interests in way that are both educational and fun - young people who want a break from the usual after school routine of homework, games and watching television.

Our activities are about action and involvement and mean more than just camping. Hiking, rock climbing, gliding, orienteering, pioneering, canoeing, environmental projects, abseiling, motor mechanics, DIY, photography- the list is endless!

Scouts are also given the chance to learn skills in survival, cooking and first aid.

There are often opportunities to go abroad as well. Recently, hundreds of Scouts from the United Kingdom attended the World Jamboree in Thailand.

While Scouts are mostly aged 10½ - 14, there is flexibilty at the joining and moving up ages, so Cubs can move up at any time between their 10th and 11th birthdays, and Scouts can move up to Explorer Scouts at the age of 13½ or stay in the Troop until they are 15.
